A person's attachment style is a unique way a person relates to others in a relationship. These attachment styles are developed during childhood depending on the relationships with the caregivers and then set to become an attachment. This is the way we respond emotionally to others, including our behaviors towards them. There are four primary adult attachments. They include secure, anxious, fearful-avoidant, and avoidant attachment.

Secure attachment style

The securely attached children become unhappy when the caregivers leave, and they get happy when they return. In the same case, when they are frightened, they tend to find comfort from the parents or caregivers. Therefore, these children prefer parents and caregivers to strangers'. The securely attached children become more empathetic in relationship attachment. They are less aggressive and tend to be more mature than the children who possess avoidant attachment styles.

Anxious attachment

The relationships between babies and their caregivers are significant to the development of these babies and how they understand their world. The babies can learn social skills by looking at how the caregivers respond to them and other people. The way the caregiver interacts with the baby can significantly affect the child's attachment style to old age. Anxious attachment people have a problem of feeling secure in relationships. So these adults that have anxious attachment may tend to be insecure about relationships.

Avoidant attachment

Avoidant attachment is a style that develops in the early stages of an individual. It affects the children who do not experience positive responses to distress. The children who have avoidant attachment may grow up being independent emotionally and also physically. This style refers to patterns that a person portrays in response to bonds and relationships. The children who have this style can form relationships that are close when they become adults.

Fearful-avoidant attachment

People who have a fearful-avoidant style desire to have close relationships, but they also feel uncomfortable relying on others for fear of other people letting them down. They are worried about being left, and for this reason, they would not want to be so close to their partners. This style is linked to adverse outcomes like the higher risks of people getting to social anxiety and depression. The people that are in this style also become less in getting into interpersonal relationships. They come from early relationships in life that cause people to develop expectations that affect relationships throughout life. However, it is possible to change attachment style and have better ways of relating to other people.
